Lymph Drainage

What is lymph drainage?

It’s a gentle, rhythmic style of massage, using external massage strokes to move fluids out of body tissue and into lymphatic system.

It helps stimulate immune system, and balances the fluid and distributes immune cells throughout the body to maintain health and defend against disease. (Helps treat a sluggish immune system).

Does it helps with pre-post surgery?

Helps before surgery (LDM) helps to remove fluid from tissue and increase blood flow, which brings nutrition to the tissue.  LDM is also deeply relaxation, so it can lessen the clients stress and anxiety.

Helps after surgery (LDM) can help to remove inflammation, speeds the healing processes and reduces scar tissue. But because of the risk of blood clots, infection after surgery client/ massage therapist must get approval from physicians before proceeding with LDM.

LDM speeds healing and reduces swelling and pain improves scars.

Relieving Stress and Tension:

Stress triggers the sympathetic nervous system, known as fight or flight state, arousing all the body defenses. Chemicals like adrenaline are secreted into the blood stream, causing muscle to tense. The heart and respiratory rates increase, organ function decrease, and the immune system is suppressed.

Chronic stress results in chronic “racing “of the decreased disease resistance. In the long run physical and mental will became unbalanced and affect all your systems body, which can cause muscle tension, and slow down the lymph nodes from doing its job.   LDM trigger the parasympathetic nervous system which has the opposite effect on the body. Muscle relax heart and breath rates decrease and clients move into a drowsy state of relaxation that promotes healing and balance.

It helps with scar tissue:

Scar tissue blocks lymph flow, if lymph vessels are damaged by injury or surgery they do not necessary grow together and connect through scar tissue. LDM reduces edema also softens and minimizes scar improving circulation. LDM can be used after an injury or surgery, it helps scars to develop in a more organized was so that they become smaller, smoother flexible and stronger.

LDM can help remove edema and reduce the pain and stiffness. LDM can also remove excess fluid from tissue and return the fluid to the blood stream for excretion through the kidneys.
